Khmer Is My Language & Culture

In the beginning of the round, I felt really fresh since we got to learn a new lesson which I’ve never learn before. The lesson is writing Essay in Khmer. It takes a very long time to write. However, under our facilitator motivation and and inspiring words, I push myself hard to accomplish it. The essay is basically about different famous quotes in Khmer that are really useful and meaningful towards Cambodian.

In the next few weeks, we started to organize an event called, Khmer literature festival. We started give each one of the students some role to do. Some are the presenter, organizer, MC, audiences, debating members, performers, dancer and models. I personally really impressed towards the achievements. It is tough and first, but we can come to a successful point because of our 6 core values. Even I was not there on the event day, because of another trip, I feel i’m actually participating. Why? Well, cause I’ve done something to help!

In the event, we showcasing our Literature that are the mementos from our ancestors and how beautiful is our culture.check out some of the activities that we’ve done:

Advice from movies

In this round, we have been working on meaning of movies and Khmer theories. There are two of the movies that we had watched. Those are the educational movies and meaningful. After we watch, we summarized and Identify the advices that the movies had teach us. Each of the characters have their own teaching style. One of the recent movie is, Pailen rose ( កុលាបប៉ៃលិន ). We have identify the advice from the characters. Example, for the the main character, they teach us to be polite, helpful, friendly and work hard. Once we finish our movie, we had a reading contest. This was lead by our facilitator. We read Pailin rose stories and we divided the role as we want for the characters. The next day, we had reading contest for our khmer point, so everyone will just choose a book that they would like to read for their facilitator. I chose a khmer book called “ ព្រះវេសន្ត”. There are so many khmer vocabulary for me, so I need to write those down and check all of its meaning in Choun Nath dictionary after all. Beside, these activities, we  sometimes go back to our poem and correct the words carefully for the book. By the way, this round still a great round though. I would prefer doing these other than going to summarize so many things from the article.

Khmer Literacy

“student make Khmer poem in class”

Khmer class is the class that include everything that we needed learn in Khmer, because Khmer is our first language. The latest lesson that we learned was writing different types of Khmer poem. We started to write the poem and then we will create a Poem book that the whole cohort will help and design the cover as well as the pages and management.

Beside writing poem, we also have our history and make a summarize to the educational movies that we have watched. Mostly, our teacher teaches something that is not written the book. Things that he told are really important, because those are really meaningful and those also teaches us some new strategies that help our learning well. Not just that, our teacher also tell how to respect people and create new friends as well as being a good friend, good student and good child. Networking is one of the lesson that we have learned this round. This included everything that we need to have such as, using words and voices, action, behavior, faces( smile, angry, boring,..), what should not do and what should we do .

It is really great being in this class. Everyone enjoy what we are doing, and that is the thing that the class the best ever for the day!
